VDU User Eye Examinations

If you habitually use a computer screen for periods of over an hour daily at work, your employer is required by European Health and Safety Law to pay for your eye examination.

We examine VDU users according to the Association of Optometrists guidelines. These guidelines require that, when a VDU eye test is booked by an employee, they will let us know what their work involves and what the environment around the screen (‘work station’) is like.

Corporate Accounts

If you are responsible for the health and safety of an organisation, you might like to open an account with Optikal. This will allow your organisation to pay for employee testing by means of a convenient monthly bill.

To find out more, contact Hayley on Finchley:020 8371 0023 or complete the enquiry form on our contact page.

We will then carry out a routine eye examination incorporating any necessary extra tests to determine that the vision is appropriately focused for the screen distance, that the eyes are working in a balanced manner and that the work does not cause any excess strain on the vision.

Any advice on changing the way that users work at a screen will be given if necessary or glasses specifically for that job (only required on average by a small percentage of people). Because the test involves routine checks it will also result in an up-to-date prescription for those people who need and my already be using glasses anyway.

And all this at no extra cost above our standard eye test fee! Better still for the employee it doesn’t cost them anything.
