About Ray Ban

When it comes to sunglasses, you can’t get much more iconic than Ray-Ban. Inventor of the original Aviators, Ray-Ban has been making memorable sunglasses since the 1930s. The name Aviator was used because the first pairs were created for US Air Force pilots, but it wasn’t long before everyone wanted them.

After the Aviator, came the Shooter, a similar frame design with adjustments made to suit hunters instead of pilots. The Outdoorsman was the next iteration, with arms designed to fit securely and extra protection features. Next came the other iconic classic, the Wayfarer. When moldable plastics came around in the 1950s, fashion eyewear really took off for Ray-Ban.

Through the 1950s and 60s, military functional glare protection took a sideways step into everyday fashion and many more shapes and styles were added to the collection. Ray-Ban became the brand to be seen in, but it wasn’t all about image. The sunglasses would never have been so successful if they didn’t work so well. Cutting out glare and giving people clear vision in bright weather made the shades irresistible to professionals, athletes and fashionistas alike.

Don’t stop at shades – Ray-Ban has a great selection of optical frames too. You’ll find all the classic shapes plus many more, and believe us when we say there’s something to suit every face shape and style preference.
